Dover Beach
Two minutes on foot. Soft sand, a lifeguard through the day, and water that stays calm enough for children most of the year. There is a small park behind it with shade if the afternoon gets long. Go early and it is nearly empty.

What is on the doorstep
Dover is at the quieter end of the south coast, close enough to walk to the beach and the restaurants, far enough back to sleep.
The south coast boardwalk
The boardwalk starts a few minutes east and runs about a mile to Rockley, along the water the whole way. It is flat, it is busy at sunrise with people walking and running, and there are benches and a couple of places to buy a drink. The best walk on this coast.
St Lawrence Gap
The strip of restaurants and bars just west of the house — fish, pizza, rum, live music on some nights. It gets loud at the far end after eleven; the house is far enough back that you hear none of it. Book a table on a Saturday.
Oistins on a Friday night
Ten minutes by car. The fish fry at the market: grilled marlin or flying fish, macaroni pie, plastic chairs, loud music, everyone from the island and everyone visiting. Get there around seven, before the queues, and pay cash.
Groceries
Massy Supermarket at Sky Mall or the Big B at Worthing are both under ten minutes by car and stock more or less everything. There is also a small shop within walking distance for milk, bread and beer.
Getting here from the airport
Grantley Adams is about twenty minutes away. We can arrange a driver to meet your flight for a fixed fare — tell us the flight number when you book. Taxis at the airport are fixed-rate by zone; agree the price before you set off. Cars can be hired if you want to explore the east coast, but you do not need one to stay here.
